JOB TITLE:                             Patient Accounts - Claims Specialist

 

REPORTS TO:                       Patient Accounts Supervisor

JOB PURPOSE:                    SUPPORTS PATIENT ACCOUNTS DEPARTMENT

Providing customer information, verifying and billing patients' accounts under the supervision of the department manager. Meets CAAS accreditation standards.

 

Safety Sensitive Designation:
This position is deemed safety sensitive in accordance with Arkansas Act 593 governing Medical Marijuana.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School or equivalency diploma

  • Associates Degree in insurance, accounting, or related field preferred

  • Experience in bookkeeping, accounts receivable, insurance services, collecting, or customer service preferred

  • Certified Ambulance Coder (or be willing to obtain upon hire) preferred

  • Typing, keyboarding, data entry, filing, and computer skills

  • Able to work with others and function as a team member

 

Job Requirements:

  • Must be able to operate all office machines, telephones, computers, etc.

  • Must be able to speak clearly, have good corrected vision and hearing.

  • Must be able to exert 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects, operate equipment, or perform work. (Medium Work per Department of Labor, Dictionary of Occupational Titles)

  • Must have dexterous use of both hands, arms, and fingers.

  • Must be able to maintain a work pace sufficient to meet deadlines and be able to perform multiple unrelated or related tasks in rapid succession.

 

This is medium duty work requiring prolonged sitting, repetitive task, occasional isolation, some physical activities including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, lifting, exposure to certain household chemicals and interpersonal interactions of a stressful nature. 

 

Must be able to maintain 40 hours per week from the hours of 0700 to 1700, Monday through Thursday, except for holidays, personal pay, and medical pay.

 

For the purpose of calculating time off paid benefits: 1 work week = 40 hours.

 

JOB TITLE:    Claims Specialist

Essential Job Results:

           

  1. Maintains Data Entry Function

Receiving data entered patient calls from dispatch; performing the pre-billing data entry review in order to verify that information data entered is accurate and sufficient for the applicable payor; correcting data entry records, validating new or deficient customer information; updating customer information; and updating lifetime signature reports for crews.

 

  1. Maintains Accounts Receivables

Issuing quality assurance notices to crews in regard to inadequate medical records; assuring PCS forms are included with all non-emergency transports or that an attempt to obtain a PCS form is made.

 

  1. Maintains Software

Maintaining technical knowledge; reviewing program objectives; ensuring programs are fully utilized; tracking and testing software updates; communicating information to appropriate persons.

 

  1. Maintains Compliance

Reviewing professional publications; identifying optional and mandatory changes; recommending changes to the Chief Financial Officer, maintaining policies and procedures to ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.

 

  1. Maintains Customer Satisfaction

Being available during regular business hours to handle patient account issues; interacting in a professional manner; providing information and assistance; answering incoming calls; responding to front desk duties when needed.

 

  1. Maintains Customer Confidence and Protects Operations

Keeping patient information confidential; securing proper authorization for release of information; complying with federal, state, and local legal requirements; following Vital Link policies and procedures.

 

  1. Maintains Historical Records

Creating, keeping, and safe guarding patient account and medical records; retaining accounts receivable records.

 

  1. Maintains Professional and Technical Knowledge

Attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; and obtaining knowledge and skills essential to successful job performance.

 

  1. Contributes to Team Effort
